Foreword

It is an honour to herald yet a third volume of original bagpipe music from Nova Scotia. As with the first two volumes, which met with wide acclaim, all of the music has come from the pen of Scott Williams.

The music in this volume covers all facets of our light music. The slow airs and light marches are especially suited to the novice players while the heavier competition marches, strathspeys, reels, jigs and hornpipes will be welcomed by the more advanced.

The tunes contained herein show a marked difference in Scott's development as a composer. They display more freedom of expression and move away from the traditional style in some of the tune types. Scott has long had the respect of his peers and has enjoyed the reputation of being an excellent teacher, pipe major, and judge. These compositions are an extension of his teaching. I trust that many of his tunes will be played not only here in the Atlantic Provinces of Canada, But throughout the piping world.
